“Cohiba Behike 52 BHK”

Opens up with a series of wood notes and a bit of grass, but evolves into a wonderful strong smoke with notes of pepper and licorice on the spicy side and faint notes of dried fruit and tang on the sweet side. The scent of roasted tobacco and caramelized fruit is truly amazing and will blow your mind. Licorice on the draw, pepper on the tongue and oak in the aftertaste. In short, a strong spicy smoke with a full body. I rate it 94 from a single stick dated 2010.

The taste reminds me very much of the Trinidad Robusto Extra and is closely related to the Montecristo family. My advise – Save your money and buy the Trinidad.

“Punch Northern Lights ER Nordic 2009”

A petit edmundo exclusivo paises nordicos. Brought this little “light” home from Copenhagen the other day. I am not a big fan of the Punch family but I do love to try the limited editions.

There is cedar on the draw, a faint licorice on the tounge, a lovely toasted oak aftertaste and a roasted scent. There are moments of tangy flavors. In short, a strong dry toasted smoke. I rate it 87 from a box dated oct. 2009.

“Trinidad Robusto Extra”

This cigar has a wonderful set of unique flavors, and really is, in a league of its own. The first puff just hits you with a salty spicy aroma, reminiscing of raw licorice, it’s soo good it’s addictive. It’s similar to the Montecristo flavor profile, but with a rich creamy nuance. This might be the ultimate poker cigar.

There is almond on the draw, licorice on the tongue, sweet cedar in the scent and oak in the aftertaste with a hint of coffee and toast in moderations. This is a lovely light-medium bodied cigar on the spicy flavor spectrum. I rate it 93 from a box dated 02/2008.

“Cohiba Maduro 5 Genios”

This is my last stick from a box of 10. It has been resting in my humidor for over a year at 75% humidity, just the way I like it. The wrapper is flawless, oily and gorges dark, almost black, and acording to Habanos SA, over five years old (hence the name Maduro 5), which makes this a seven year old smoke.

I truely love this cigar. This is an explosion of sweet flavors. A masterpeice in construction and chocolate flavor. This cigar peaks with a nice bottle of Demi-sec champagne, Veuve Clicquot. On the draw is a bounch of sweet chocolate, a bit pepper on the tongue and licorice/espresso in the aftertaste. There is a lovely salty/licorice taste on the lips. The room is filling op with a sweet nutty dark aroma, pleasuring the nose. There is no sour notes like coffee or citrus. The burn is a bit unstable and uneven, which I in this rare case find charming. A real desert, just amazing. I rate this 95 from a box dated 10/2007.

“Padron Serie 1926 #1 Maduro”

Licorice, vanilla, pepper, coffee and heavy toasted leather. This  cigar is a complex full bodied spicy smoke. This cigar is truly a powerhouse of taste and it demeands your full attention or it will burn your tongue. Very oily, allmost to much. At the end it stays primary on the sour coffee side moving in to strong espresso with hints of sweet vanilla and bitter pepper in moderations. A lovely spicy smoke which is not for the faint hearted. I was impressed with the white ash and the crisp even burn, delivering a thick gorges smoke. Rate 91.

“Montecristo #2”

There is something about this cigar from 10/2009. It is one of the most famous cuban cigars and the amount of these coming out of Cuba each year is just amazing. I have been through allot of these, each time finding myself in a conflict with taste and fame. Yes, it is a very good cigar, but I must admit that there are other, really good cigars out there, both in taste and price.

There is caramel on the draw, oak on the tongue, licorice/toast in the aftertaste and cedar in the scent. An overall bitter and salty smoke. Just lovely. I don’t smoke these very often because the taste is not one of my favorites. But once in a while you just got the urge for one of these and it is just heaven. Compared to the Partagas Series P #2, this cigar is a bit more dry, where the Partagas is a mixture of soft and spicy notes. I always compare the Montecristo brand to the Trinidad, because they are similar in taste but worlds apart in price… and with a good reason. I rate it 90.
