“Partagas Selección Pirámides 2003”

Partagas Selección Pirámides 2003I got this piramides in a sampler box of 5. Thought I would check out the Cohiba and Partagas for this special release.

A beautiful cigar with a wonderful think smoke and a great draw. There is sweet cedar on the draw, sour citrus on the tongue, oak in the aftertaste and scent. In short, a medium bodied toasted smoke with a lovely sweet and sour woody flavor. I rate it 88 from a single stick dated 2003.

“Cuaba Divinos”

Okay, quite excited about this little figurado. Heard a lot of interesting things about the Divinos.

Very sweet in the opening. A really tight draw, almost too tight, with a lovely thick smoke. There are sweet fruit on the draw, salty tang/vinegar on the tongue, bitter oak in the aftertaste and a fruit aroma in the scent. There are moments of sour ammonia and coffee flavors. In short, a strong little flavor bomb of sweet’n'salty vegetal notes. This smoke needs alot more rest. I would give it 4 more years in the humidor before giving these a chance. I rate it 85 from a selection dated 2009.

“Bolivar Double Corona”

This is a vintage cigar from 2000. Bought a single stick from my favorite shop in Copenhagen. The taste is somewhere in the middle of the Bolivar Royal Corona and the Bolivar Belicosos, but with a twist of bland flavors.

There is sugar on the draw, citrus on the tongue, oak in the aftertaste and a roasted coffee scent. There is a hint of sour coffee and sweet cedar flavors. This is really a lovely medium bodied smoke and I must have a box, for aging, on my next shopping spree. In short, a spicy, dry and sour cigar. I rate it 94. Superb.

“Partagas D #4”

I got a box of 10 dated 09/2009 a few months ago and a couple of tubos dated 06/2009, just for comparison. The tubos had lots of lovely flavors from the start but the sticks, out of the box, was a bit green/mossy. Now, five months later, it is time to open the torch again.

This is just a really creamy smoke with sweet spicy and earthy flavours. Hints of chocolate on the draw, pepper on the tongue and roasted coffee in the aftertaste. After the first inch the sweetness becomes more sour. The pepper gets stronger and the coffee become more dominant in the aftertaste. The smoke is thick with a nutty scent. A medium-full body with an even burn.

With more aging this will be the perfect cigar. Rated side by side with the Bolivar RC. The limited editions #1 and #2 are just the top of the line from Partagas, but as a regular production cigar, the #4 is a strong contender. I rate it 91.

“Vegas Rabaina Famosos”

The Vegas Rabaina has allways been a favorite brand of mine. It is a brand on the medium earthy and spicy side of the flavor spectrum. A perfect after-noon or apéritif cigar if you like strong cigars for a main course.

A delicious salty wrapper. The first puff is nutty and with lots of coffee flavors. A bit of cocoa on the draw and some caramel and pepper in the aftertaste. There is a scent of honey and lovely roasted coffee which is really dominating in this smoke.

A medium bodied smoke and primarily the flavors stays on the sour side through the entire smoke ranging from coffee to caramel to burnt. For me, the robusto size is a perfect length and makes a good 40 minutes smoke. I rate it 90 from a box dated 07/2008.

“San Cristóbal de La Habana La Punta”

This La Punta from 03/2007, starts off with a punch of pepper that turns into a creamy coffee taste. As the smoke opens up it there is some fruit in the draw with a heavy liquor in the aftertaste. The smoke is very grassy, almost grape on the sour scale, but again blended with a lovely creamy coffee taste. A bit woody, a bit earthy, but mainly vegetal. I rate it 88.

“Padron Serie 1926 #1 Maduro”

Licorice, vanilla, pepper, coffee and heavy toasted leather. This  cigar is a complex full bodied spicy smoke. This cigar is truly a powerhouse of taste and it demeands your full attention or it will burn your tongue. Very oily, allmost to much. At the end it stays primary on the sour coffee side moving in to strong espresso with hints of sweet vanilla and bitter pepper in moderations. A lovely spicy smoke which is not for the faint hearted. I was impressed with the white ash and the crisp even burn, delivering a thick gorges smoke. Rate 91.
