“Cuaba Divinos”

Okay, quite excited about this little figurado. Heard a lot of interesting things about the Divinos.

Very sweet in the opening. A really tight draw, almost too tight, with a lovely thick smoke. There are sweet fruit on the draw, salty tang/vinegar on the tongue, bitter oak in the aftertaste and a fruit aroma in the scent. There are moments of sour ammonia and coffee flavors. In short, a strong little flavor bomb of sweet’n'salty vegetal notes. This smoke needs alot more rest. I would give it 4 more years in the humidor before giving these a chance. I rate it 85 from a selection dated 2009.

“Hoyo de Monterry Épicure #2”

I am not much of a Hoyo fan and the brand have a reputation for their light flavors favored by beginners. But light flavors alone doesn’t make it a beginners cigar. In my opinion a beginner cigar is a medium earthy/creamy cigar, not a cigar with rich vegetal flavors, which is a more demanding taste spectrum for beginners.

If there is a poster child for a vegetal cigar, this must be it. Tea on the draw, tang on the tongue, grass in the aftertaste and fruit in the scent. A light-medium bodied smoke bursting with vegetal flavors. Potpourri rolled in a Cuban wrapper. I rate it 88 from a tubos dated 05/2006.

“San Cristóbal de La Habana La Punta”

This La Punta from 03/2007, starts off with a punch of pepper that turns into a creamy coffee taste. As the smoke opens up it there is some fruit in the draw with a heavy liquor in the aftertaste. The smoke is very grassy, almost grape on the sour scale, but again blended with a lovely creamy coffee taste. A bit woody, a bit earthy, but mainly vegetal. I rate it 88.

“Punch Punch Punch”

This is my first Punch from 06/2009 which has been resting in the humidor for some weeks in a tubos. The taste is floral, citrus and a bit grassy in a medium-full body. Overall a bitter vegetal smoke with a “Punch” on the spicy side. I will rate it 87.

“Cuaba Pyramidas EL 2008”

These beautiful shaped and gorgeous dark maduro cigars have been resting in my humidor for a couple of months. Basking side by side with the Cohiba Pyramidas EL 2006. Two masterpieces from cuba. Today I wanted to take it for a ride and se if it was worth using space in the humidor for the next many years of aging.

From pre-lidt to the first puffs, this is a very smooth smoke. Very floral/vegetal. Medium fruit to full floral with a bit of cedar and vanilla. Very sweet maduro taste. The first inch is burning straight with white ash and the flavours are released heavyli in a thick cloud. This is still a young cigar but is allready tasting great. With some aging this will be a perfect desert cigar for a special event. I will rate it 92.
